PetroVR Files
PetroVR system and user files are installed in different folders as explained under Location of PetroVR Files.
You save your work in different file types according to the tool you use:
- The model objects you create in PetroVR Plan make up a project that is saved in a .pvr file. You can open .pvr files directly from Windows Explorer by double-clicking them.
- The different scenarios you can create from a project using Scenarios are saved separately from the project, in .scn files. The same is valid for Decision Tree built upon projects, which are saved in .dts files.
- PetroVR Econ models are also saved separately from projects, in .eco files. They are usually designed to be applied to multiple projects.
- When you calculate an Econ model for a given project or a portfolio, a results file is automatically created for that project with the extension .rlt. You can open .rlt files directly from Windows Explorer by double-clicking them. See The results file (.rlt).
- The results obtained from Sensitivity on Variable Values and Sensitivity on Variable Distributions can be saved as specific sensitivity results files (extension .sns).
- Every time a Monte Carlo simulation is run, a probabilistic data file is automatically created for the current project, with the extension .rdt complementary file to .rlt results files. This contains those data that changed between iterations, i.e., those subject to probability distributions. After these data are used for generating the probabilistic results, this file is only viewed from the Data node of the Probabilistic Results; apart from this, it can be omitted safely.
- Catalogs of facilities, fluids, fluid components, reserves booking, cost categories and resources are saved in separate .ctg files.
- Units used in variables can be saved in separate files with the extension .csr. Global variables defined in Globals, are saved in .glb files. They are usually referenced by a large number of projects and Econ models.
- Partners and interests defined using Contracts are saved in .act files.
- PetroVR Portfolio lets you save your portfolio projects in .pfl files. You can open .pfl files directly from Windows Explorer by double-clicking them.
- When you run an Efficient Frontier, an .ef file is generated with EF data and results.
- Signature files (.txt) containing lists of Model Signatures.
The location of all these files can be viewed and modified in the Tools menu Options (Tools menu) and the Files Tab.
Result files (.rlt and .rdt) obtained after running Monte Carlo on Scenarios store all results and not only those that showed differences, even if only the latter are displayed in the Scenarios Results Differences Tab (Scenarios).
Some tools have their own specific result files: Scenarios (scn.rlt), Decision Tree (.dts.rlt), Portfolio (.pfl.rlt), Efficient Frontier (ef.rlt), Contracts (.act.rlt). Probabilistic results of each are also included in these files.
PetroVR locks .pvr and .scn files while in use, so that they cannot be used from other applications (including other instances of PetroVR) or accidentally deleted by the Windows File Explorer. The lock is released only when the project is closed (or the Scenarios window for .scn files).
